Choosing the Right Boston Countertops for Your Kitchen

If you're planning to renovate your kitchen, you know that choosing the right Boston countertops can be an overwhelming experience. There are so many materials and colors to choose from, but which one will be the right choice for your kitchen and will you be happy with it once it's installed? Your Boston countertops will take a lot of abuse and probably be one of the most used surfaces in your home. That's why you need to give some careful thought to your choice of countertop materials.

Of course everyone loves the look of granite and there are many advantages to installing Boston granite countertops. It's stain and heat resistant, doesn't chip easily and is easy to maintain when compared to other natural stone products. The disadvantages are that it does need to be sealed on a regular basis to prevent it from absorbing stains and it is on the higher end as far as cost is concerned.

There are a number of other options when it comes to natural stone including marble, limestone or slate. These are usually less expensive than granite but still can provide a great look in any quality kitchen and like Boston granite countertops they are heat resistant and durable.

Solid-surface Boston countertops are another man-made product. These countertops are usually custom made to fit your kitchen so there are no seams and because the color goes all the way through, you'll never have to worry about scratches. Just a light buffing can remove most scratches as well as embedded stains. One of the nice things about solid surface Boston countertops is that you can have your sink molded right in so you have even less seams to deal with.

We tend to equate stainless steel countertops with industrial kitchens but in recent years they have been making their way into home kitchens as well and with good reason. Boston stainless steel countertops are non-porous, not damaged by high heat and are easy to clean. If you've ever had a stainless steel sink, then you know the disadvantages. Stainless steel will show water spots unless you are meticulous about keeping it dry.

Engineered or man-made stone is a relative new comer in Boston countertops material. It consists of natural quartz fragments bound together by polymer resins and then formed into countertops. Engineered stone is a more family friendly product in that it doesn't scratch or stain easily but as with other man-made countertops it can be damaged by heat.

Another Boston countertop product fairly recent on the scene is concrete. Concrete might seem out of place for a kitchen but with new technology, the same material used in foundations and walkways can now provide the same durability in the kitchen. Concrete very durable and resistant to heat and stains once it is sealed. The only disadvantage is probably the cost.
